New Naqqali Manga, Issue 2: Rostam and Sohrab, Part One: The Son

By New Naqqali

A boy with a giant’s strength sets out to find the father he has never seen.

Hunting on the border of Turan, Rostam loses Rakhsh and follows his tracks to Samangan, where the princess Tahmineh comes to him by night. Fourteen years later their son Sohrab, already the strongest man in Turan, rides out with Afrasiab’s army to find his father, and meets Gordafarid at the White Fortress on Iran’s border. Part One of the tale, in 132 panels across 58 pages of black-and-white ink with eight full-colour pages; every caption is a couplet of Ferdowsi’s poem in our rhyming English verse. With a cast page, a map, an afterword, Tahmineh’s night visit in full verse, and a glossary. The tale continues in Issue 3, The Father, and ends in Issue 4, The Tragedy.
