THE SHAHNAMEH / BLOODLINES & CROWNS
A family branches.
A kingdom changes hands.
Follow the bloodline. Follow the crown. Discover where their paths divide.

Connections and their sources
READING THE DYNASTIES
The poem’s genealogy, with its gaps intact.
Five selected stories
These diagrams are drawn from selected New Naqqali genealogy plates. They do not claim to include every spouse, child or reign. Omitting a person from a view does not imply that person has no descendants or political role.
A crown is not a bloodline
Solid teal lines show an explicitly recorded parent and child. Red arrows show succession or a designated successor. Gold dashed lines show marriage. Grey broken lines cross unnamed generations. A succession arrow alone asserts no family relationship.
People remain distinct
Pashang of Turan is distinct from Manuchehr’s father. Shiruyeh is also called Qobad; he is distinct from the earlier Qobad. Ardeshir, son of Shiruyeh, is distinct from Ardeshir Babakan.
Read back into the story
Every connection links to its genealogy plate and its place in the poem. They show the relationships as this translation presents them. The Iskandar genealogy follows the Shahnameh’s narrative rather than historical scholarship on Alexander.
