Jamshid's Daughters Brought Before Fereydoon
From A5.7, Fereydoon Sees the Daughters of Jamshid. It illustrates A5.7.5–13:
- A5.7.5Zahhak’s own seat he claimed before them all,And set his foot within the tyrant’s hall.
- A5.7.6The Kayanian cap he set in place,With kingly farr resplendent in his face.
- A5.7.7From Zahhak’s shabestan came women fair,Sun-faced and dark of eye, with flowing hair.
- A5.7.8Among them Jamshid’s daughters stood forlorn,Their minds by Zahhak’s sorcery were worn.
- A5.7.9Like those made senseless by a drunken state,They stood confused beneath their noxious fate.
- A5.7.10He had their heads washed clean of stain and dread,And purged the darkness Zahhak’s teachings spread.
- A5.7.11He showed the path that leads to God the Pure,And cleansed the taint they long had to endure.
- A5.7.12For raised in false belief beneath that reign,Their minds had wandered far from truth’s domain.
- A5.7.13Their narcissus eyes overflowed with deep grief,And crimson cheeks found tears but no relief.
