Giv Pierces Piran's Ear

Giv Pierces Piran's Ear

From B10.25, Farangis Wins Piran’s Release. It illustrates B10.25.9–15:

  • B10.25.9
I swore an oath by moon and royal crown,And by the Shah’s high throne of great renown:
  • B10.25.10
If once in battle I should bring him low,His blood would dye the earth with crimson flow.”
  • B10.25.11
Then Khosrow said: “O lion, guard your soul;Fulfill your oath, yet keep his body whole.
  • B10.25.12
Pierce only Piran’s ear with khanjar-blade;Thus let the oath you swore be duly paid.
  • B10.25.13
When from your khanjar blood has reached the ground,Let love and vengeance both therein be found.”
  • B10.25.14
Giv saw the Shah’s warm heart and tear-wet face,And read the azarm joined with royal grace.
  • B10.25.15
He pierced Piran’s ear there with his blade,And thus the oath he swore was fully paid.
