Bijan Cleaves the Kaviani Standard
From B12.22, The Turanians Defeat the Iranians. It illustrates B12.22.69–75:
- B12.22.69But Fariborz, no friend to wisdom then,Cried: “Go away, rash youth among the men!
- B12.22.70You are too new to battle and too bold; The Shah gave me this standard to uphold.
- B12.22.71The army and the Pahlevan’s rank are mine; The throne and crown with my command combine.
- B12.22.72This standard is not yours by any right,Though none beneath the sky surpass your might.”
- B12.22.73Then Bijan drew his violet sword and boreIts edge against the standard that he tore.
- B12.22.74He split the standard straight across the seam,And seized one half beneath its violet gleam.
- B12.22.75He rushed out from the throng with furious speed,And bore the torn standard to his kin in need.
