Bijan and Gostaham Share One Horse
From B12.22, The Turanians Defeat the Iranians. It illustrates B12.22.117–122:
- B12.22.117Now Gostaham had seen his charger slain,As fortune turned against him on the plain.
- B12.22.118In jowshan, helm, on foot, spear still in hand,He reeled like one drunk across the bloody land.
- B12.22.119When Bijan reached him as the daylight died,He called: “Rise up and mount here at my side.
- B12.22.120No living man is dearer in my eyes;Come, share my horse, and from this ruin rise.”
- B12.22.121So both of them bestrode a single steed,And sought the mountain-skirt in bitter need.
- B12.22.122They left the battle in a routed flight,While darkness gathered on the field that night.
