Tus Rebukes Bahram
From B12.6, Bahram Returns to Tus. It illustrates B12.6.5–15:
- B12.6.5The haughty Tus replied in sudden wrath:“The buq and koust resound along our path.
- B12.6.6My order leaves no room for you to stray:‘Bring him before me; ask nothing; obey.’
- B12.6.7If he is king, then who in truth am I?Why does he stand upon that mountain high?
- B12.6.8Some Turanian youth, like raven black,Has blocked the road and holds our army back.
- B12.6.9In Gudarz’s sons I see no good today;Their self-willed deeds bring harm to our array.
- B12.6.10You stood afraid before one horseman’s stare,As though a lion crouched within its lair.
- B12.6.11He saw our ranks, then turned to craft and guile; You crossed those slopes for nothing all the while.”
- B12.6.12Then Tus addressed the gathered chiefs and spoke:“O warriors, who will take this heavy yoke?
- B12.6.13I need a warrior fearless, fierce, and bold,To climb that height and do as I have told.
- B12.6.14Bring me his severed head before my sight,Cut with your khanjar on that mountain height.”
- B12.6.15Then Rivniz quickly girded for the fight,His doom drew near him on that fatal night.
