Rostam Pleads for the Army
From B13.3, Khosrow Grants Pardon. It illustrates B13.3.2–8:
- B13.3.2Loud shouts arose before the palace gate; Then peerless Rostam came to plead their fate.
- B13.3.3He said: “Great Shah, may throne and crown and ringRejoice in you, the world’s appointed king.
- B13.3.4Though Tus and all the army earned your blame,Forgive their wrong for Rostam’s sake and name.
- B13.3.5When Tus saw son and son-in-law lie slain,All prudence left him, overcome by pain.
- B13.3.6By nature rash, his wisdom soon can stray;A son’s dear life is no small thing to weigh.
- B13.3.7When brave Rivniz was slaughtered in his sight,And proud Zarasp lay ruined in the fight,
- B13.3.8No wonder if his heart blazed fierce with flame; The Shah should hold him guiltless of the same.
