Puladvand Splits Kaveh's Banner
From B14.23, Puladvand Battles Giv and Tus. It illustrates B14.23.19–26:
- B14.23.19He reached the standard of Kaveh in war,And with his khanjar split it to the core.
- B14.23.20The Iranians wailed; no warrior held the field,No champion stood with spear or sword or shield.
- B14.23.21When Fariborz, Gudarz, and chiefs drew near,They saw that warrior Div’s great strength with fear.
- B14.23.22They said to Rostam, Zal’s avenging son:“See what fierce Puladvand in war has done.
- B14.23.23No horseman in our force can keep his seat,No chief remains who has not met defeat.
- B14.23.24Puladvand has hurled our chiefs to the ground,With gorz, khanjar, shaft, and kamand swung around.
- B14.23.25The field of battle overflows with woe;Now Rostam must come forth and face the foe.”
- B14.23.26Then cries of grief rose up from left and right,From both the wings and center of the fight.
