Rostam Lifts Puladvand Like a Plane-Tree
From B14.25, Rostam Wrestles Puladvand. It illustrates B14.25.29–37:
- B14.25.29But Rostam said, “In battle I am tried; In wrestling, I let patience be my guide.
- B14.25.30What do you fear? Why do your hearts so quake? Why should this one man make your spirits break?
- B14.25.31Now I shall bring his head from heaven’s height,And cast fierce Puladvand to dust outright.
- B14.25.32But if my hand lacks strength to cast him low,Why should your needless fear distress me so?
- B14.25.33If this witless sorcerer breaks his sworn word,And tramples on God’s pact, which you all heard,
- B14.25.34Why fear to break the pact he has overthrown?Upon his own head is the dust now thrown.”
- B14.25.35Then lion-like, great Rostam seized his foe,That nahang, chest and neck, and laid him low.
- B14.25.36He tore Puladvand upward from the ground,Like some great plane-tree wrenched from roots profound.
- B14.25.37He raised him on his neck and flung him prone,Then praised Almighty God in solemn tone.
