From B14.6, Turan’s Counsel before Battle. It illustrates B14.6.23–34 (to B14.6.38):
- B14.6.23Swift as the dust, with sighing lips he sped,His heart brimmed blood; his eyes their yellow tears shed.
- B14.6.24There bloody tulips bloomed on saffron cheeks; The Khan’s pavilion rang with mourners’ shrieks.
- B14.6.25Kamus’s kin had come, a grieving throng,Before the Khan for redress of such a wrong.
- B14.6.26They cried, “Afrasiab will no more dreamOf greatness, crown, or kingship’s golden gleam.
- B14.6.27Why did a king who has no man to fightBegin this feud and bring us such a plight?
- B14.6.28To avenge Kamus, with tearful eyes, we goWith Kashan’s troops to Chin, our hearts in woe.
- B14.6.29From Chin and Barbar armies shall be ledTo seek revenge for brave Kamus, now dead.
- B14.6.30From Buzgush, Sagzars, Mazandaran, callWith men bearing heavy gorz, one and all.
- B14.6.31Let them make war on Rostam, shouting high,Till none can hear his voice or battle-cry.
- B14.6.32If Afrasiab seeks vengeance, let him keepNo rest within his heart, no ease, no sleep.”
- B14.6.33The kin of Ashkabus and Chingish came;Their drum-like clamor rose in grief and flame.
- B14.6.34In anguish for their kin, their tears were shedLike gall on saffron cheeks, where color fled.
