Rostam Lifts Afrasiab by the Girdle
From B3.2, Rostam Fights Afrasiab. It illustrates B3.2.20–25:
- B3.2.20Then Rostam pressed his thighs on Rakhsh with force,And raised the heavy gorz above his horse.
- B3.2.21He lowered his gorz against the saddle side,Then grappled Afrasiab in his pride.
- B3.2.22He seized the king’s waistband amid the fray,And lifted him clean from the saddle’s stay.
- B3.2.23He strove to bear him captive from the fight,And lay him bound before Kay Qobad’s sight.
- B3.2.24But weight and strain together broke the band; The girdle snapped and slipped from Rostam’s hand.
- B3.2.25Afrasiab fell headlong to the ground,His chiefs rushed forth and gathered close around.
