The Div Minstrel Sings of Mazandaran
From B4.1, The Reign of Kay Kavus, His Sitting upon the Throne, and His Intent to March to Mazandaran. It illustrates B4.1.29–40 (to B4.1.41):
- B4.1.29He tuned his barbat and struck a subtle tone,Then sang of lands more fair than any known:
- B4.1.30“May Mazandaran ever honored be;May all its land bloom on eternally.
- B4.1.31Upon its slopes the crimson tulips blaze,And hyacinths perfume the mountain ways.
- B4.1.32No burning heat, no bitter cold to bear;Eternal spring adorns the tempered air.
- B4.1.33The nightingale in every garden sings,And deer move freely by the mountain springs.
- B4.1.34All year in every place are scent and hue,And every garden keeps its colors new.
- B4.1.35Like rosewater the fragrant rivers flow,Their perfume gladdens every soul below.
- B4.1.36Through Dey and Bahman, Azar, Farvardin,The tulip-covered earth stays fresh and green.
- B4.1.37All year the smiling streambanks laugh and shine,And hunting hawks stand ready down the line.
- B4.1.38Rich brocades clothe provinces far and wide,And golden treasures fill each hall inside.
- B4.1.39Fair maidens wear bright crowns of beaten gold,And famous men gold girdles round them hold.
- B4.1.40Who has not seen that land knows not delight,Nor feels the fullness of its living light.”
