Farangis Sees Siavash Bound
From B9.54, Farangis Pleads before Afrasiab. It illustrates B9.54.26–37:
- B9.54.26As she spoke on, she saw him bound in shame,And tore her cheeks while calling out his name:
- B9.54.27“O king, you left Iran with trusting mind,And thought a father’s shelter you would find.
- B9.54.28Yet now you walk on foot with shackled hands;Where are your crown, your throne, your high commands?
- B9.54.29Where are the vows that bound the king so tight,That made the turning moon and heaven shake with fright?
- B9.54.30Where now is Kavus with his royal train?Could he but see you bound in grief and pain?
- B9.54.31Where Rostam, Tus, and Giv, that fearless band,And Zal and Faramarz of Iran’s land?
- B9.54.32The tale will reach Iran and stir the state,And shake the Shahanshah’s throne beneath its weight.
- B9.54.33Through Garsivaz this ruin fell on you;Curse Damur, Gurvi Zereh with him too!
- B9.54.34Whoever lifts a hand to do you harm,May ruin strike his head and break his arm.
- B9.54.35May God grant ease to you in this dark hour,And break your enemies and crush their power.
- B9.54.36Would that my eyes had closed before this day,Before I saw you bound and dragged away.
- B9.54.37How could I think my father would depriveMy arms of him who made my heart alive?”
