Rostam Presents Bijan to Kay Khosrow
From C2.28, Rostam’s Return to Kay Khosrow. It illustrates C2.28.26–33:
- C2.28.26The Shah himself, the army’s guardian light,And crown of chiefs, rode forth within their sight.
- C2.28.27When Rostam saw the king’s flag drawing near,And watched the monarch on the road appear,
- C2.28.28He left his horse and bowed before the king,Distressed by all the toil long roads can bring.
- C2.28.29The Shah embraced him closely at his breast,And said, “In you strength and skill’s spirit rest.
- C2.28.30Your deeds shine like the sunlight over earth; All lands have learned your glory and your worth.”
- C2.28.31Then Rostam took young Bijan by the hand; The Shah and Giv stood wondering in the band.
- C2.28.32He handed Bijan over, then stood straight;A grief-bent back was freed of sorrow’s weight.
- C2.28.33Then to the Shah he gave in captive bandsA thousand horsemen seized from Turan’s lands.
