Gorgin Tempts Bijan with the Garden of Manijeh
From C2.4, Gorgin Tricks Bijan. It illustrates C2.4.9–20 (to C2.4.36):
- C2.4.9When they had drunk a little of the red,Bijan looked once at Gorgin, and he said:
- C2.4.10“How did you find my fighting? Is there oneWho could have made such onset, and have won?”
- C2.4.11Then Gorgin said: “O fair-faced man of might,I never saw such mastery in a fight.”
- C2.4.12He added, “Bijan, Pahlevan of fame,Bright soul, renowned wherever men speak your name.”
- C2.4.13They drank two cups or three, and each man played,And of that hour a merry thing they made.
- C2.4.14“O hero, whose whole heart is fierce in fight,Wise chief whose fortune shines with heaven’s light,
- C2.4.15Such deeds have come to you, and prospered far,By Yazdan’s power and by your lofty star.
- C2.4.16Now hear the things I have to tell to you:I have been in these parts some seasons through.
- C2.4.17With Rostam and with Giv and Gazhdaham,With Tus of Nohzar’s line and Gostaham,
- C2.4.18How many feats upon that plain we won,And over them the years and hours have run.
- C2.4.19Those deeds raised high our names in every field,And won the praise King Khosrow’s heart revealed.
- C2.4.20Not far from here a pleasure-garden lies,A two days’ road toward Tur before your eyes.
