Bijan Fells Nastihan
From C3.16, Nastihan Is Slain in a Night-Attack. It illustrates C3.16.24–33:
- C3.16.24They raised their gorzes; from the darkened groundA cloud of dust rose up and spread around.
- C3.16.25That dust completely obscured the night skies; Its shadow poured across the Turkish eyes.
- C3.16.26When Bijan saw their ranks concealed in cloud,He called his men and gave command aloud:
- C3.16.27“String bows at once.” The din of battle rose,As every warrior cried against their foes.
- C3.16.28The air turned rust-dark; blood engulfed the plain,A sea of crimson spread among the slain.
- C3.16.29Two-thirds of Turan’s troops lay dead in blood,Beneath the horses’ feet, trod into mud.
- C3.16.30He caught up with Nastihan; overhead,Above his spear, the flag of Viseh spread.
- C3.16.31An arrow flew from Bijan’s mighty bow,And struck the steed beneath his armored foe.
- C3.16.32The wounded horse collapsed in bitter pain; Then Bijan reached his foe upon the plain.
- C3.16.33His gorz struck hard upon the helmeted head,And crushed his brain; there Nastihan lay dead.
