Zangeh and Awkhast Rest in the Heat
From C3.36, How Zangeh, Son of Shavaran, Battles Awkhast. It illustrates C3.36.5–11:
- C3.36.5Their weary warhorses could run no more,As though no vein could stir, so spent and sore.
- C3.36.6The sun moved through the sky in blazing heat;Like iron burned the plain beneath their feet.
- C3.36.7The warriors, spent, could scarcely stand or tread;Neither could move a single step ahead.
- C3.36.8They spoke together, each in grave concern:“In all this heat, our very livers burn.
- C3.36.9Let us take rest till strength has been restored,Then rise and meet each other with the sword.”
- C3.36.10They led their chargers to a resting ground,And there the weary horses’ feet were bound.
- C3.36.11Thereafter, having rested, both arose,And armed again to face each other’s blows.
