Khosrow Prays Behind the Lines
From C4.10, The Armies Meet in Battle. It illustrates C4.10.18–22:
- C4.10.18Khosrow, attended by a servant tried,Withdrew behind the rear and stepped aside.
- C4.10.19He dismounted there and thanked the Maker’s grace,Then laid upon the darkened dust his face.
- C4.10.20He said: “O Judge, all-holy, just, and true,The wrongs that I have borne are known to You.
- C4.10.21For many days I bore the wrong he wrought;Requite in blood the suffering he brought.
- C4.10.22Guide me, oppressed by tyranny and wrong,And let Your justice make my spirit strong.”
