The Faghfoor Welcomes Khosrow to Chin
From C4.34, Khosrow’s Embassy to the Faghfoor and Makran. It illustrates C4.34.30–40:
- C4.34.30The Khan and Faghfoor came to meet the king,Their blessings and apologies to bring.
- C4.34.31With chiefs they met him on the royal way,Three stages short of Chin in bright array.
- C4.34.32The road was cleared and leveled like a hand; Both vale and plain seemed dwellings through the land.
- C4.34.33With food and clothes the road was well supplied,With feast adornments, carpets spread beside.
- C4.34.34And when the troops approached a city’s gate,Each road and byway they would decorate.
- C4.34.35They hung rich brocade on the walls around,And showered saffron, dirhams, to the ground.
- C4.34.36The Faghfoor, now at ease before the king,Went first, the Shah into his halls to bring.
- C4.34.37He said, “We serve the monarch’s high command,If we are worthy servants in his land.
- C4.34.38Your fortune made the world both rich and bright;Your friends’ hearts now are filled with pure delight.
- C4.34.39Though these halls scarcely merit your abode,Yet surely they are no worse than the road.”
- C4.34.40Illustrious Khosrow entered at his side,And took the famous throne in royal pride.
