Zardosht Brings the Censer of Fire
From C6.3, Zardosht Appears before Goshtasb. It illustrates C6.3.1–12 (to C6.3.14):
- C6.3.1Thus passed a while; then on the earth appearedA spreading tree whose many branches reared
- C6.3.2Within Goshtasb’s hall toward the palace height,Its crown thick-set with boughs, a noble sight.
- C6.3.3Its leaves were counsel; wisdom hung on high;Who tasted of its fruit, how could he die?
- C6.3.4That blessed tree was Zardosht, who had slainThe evil Ahriman and checked his reign.
- C6.3.5He said, “I am God’s prophet and your guide;Through me, the path to God is opened wide.”
- C6.3.6He brought a censer, fire within it bright;“From Paradise,” he said, “I bring this light.
- C6.3.7The Maker says, ‘Accept the Faith I show;Behold the sky above, the earth below.
- C6.3.8I made them not from dust and water’s frame;Look on My work and know from whom it came.
- C6.3.9See now if any other power could doThis work but I, whose rule is just and true.
- C6.3.10If you acknowledge all that I have shown,Then name Me this world’s Maker, Me alone.’
- C6.3.11Receive His good religion from my voice,And learn His path; make wisdom now your choice.
- C6.3.12Do as the holy speaker bids you still;Choose wisdom; know the world as vain and ill.
