Faramarz's Last Stand
From D1.3, Faramarz Fights Bahman. It illustrates D1.3.22–28:
- D1.3.22He charged the center of the army’s might,And drew close to the Shah amid the fight.
- D1.3.23He struck the heads from Indian chiefs of fame,From mighty champions, men of noble name.
- D1.3.24The warriors saw, and anger filled their breast; With all the army, hard on him they pressed.
- D1.3.25The horsemen hemmed him in, a circling ring; Each sword wound made him feel its bitter sting.
- D1.3.26His horse grew weak beneath the arrows’ rain,And fell face-first, helpless upon the plain.
- D1.3.27Time held a heavy gorz within its hand,And struck the mighty warriors of the land.
- D1.3.28From loss of blood his senses slipped away;He stood there still; no word had he to say.
