The Sixth Banquet in Full Array
From D13.20.7, The Sixth Banquet. It illustrates D13.20.7.1–10:
- D13.20.7.1The Shah allowed another week to pass,Then called the court to shine with gold and brass.
- D13.20.7.2He came and took his high and royal seat,His crown and girdle shining, all complete.
- D13.20.7.3The Mobad took his stand upon one flank,As vizier to the king, the first in rank.
- D13.20.7.4Upon the other Yazdegard was placed,The scribe whose records royal deeds embraced.
- D13.20.7.5Around them stood the other men of age,The chiefs, and Bozorgmehr, the speaking sage.
- D13.20.7.6The Shah said, “Why should jewels stay concealed,Those words by which the soul is fed and healed?
- D13.20.7.7They raise the one whom no one prized before,And lift the lowly man to honor more.
- D13.20.7.8The speaker’s treasure suffers no decline,While listeners taste delight from wisdom’s wine.”
- D13.20.7.9The Mobad turned to Bozorgmehr and said:“O man whose fame the turning heavens have spread,
- D13.20.7.10What thing, when more is taken, brings you harm,But less of it gives strength to flesh and arm?”
