Smiths Fire Iskandar's Wall
From D5.30, Iskandar Builds a Wall against Yajuj and Majuj. It illustrates D5.30.44–50:
- D5.30.44They mixed much oil and naphtha, then they pouredThe mixture on the substances there stored.
- D5.30.45They heaped great loads of charcoal on the height,Then, at his order, set the mass alight.
- D5.30.46A hundred thousand smiths obeyed his will,And brought their bellows, working with their skill.
- D5.30.47The roaring blast rose from the mountain’s peak; The stars before the fire’s fierce might grew weak.
- D5.30.48So time went by amid that fiery glare,The bellows’ blast, the smiths’ relentless care.
- D5.30.49The substances grew molten, flowing bright,And fused together in the fire’s fierce light.
- D5.30.50Thus Yajuj and Majuj were held at bay,And nations breathed in safety from that day.
