- D5.5.55Iskandar comes with legions in his train,And chiefs of Rum and of the Iranian plain.
- D5.5.56If you would keep your honor whole and bright,Use wisdom; do not challenge him in fight.
- D5.5.57Four unique treasures rest within your hand,Whose equals are unknown in any land:
- D5.5.58Your daughter first, a maiden fair and wise,Whose beauty shines like light from paradise;
- D5.5.59Your hidden sage, whose learning can impartThe secrets of the world to every heart;
- D5.5.60Your famed physician, learned in healing lore,Whose knowledge wins him honor more and more;
- D5.5.61And fourth, a cup whose water knows no heatFrom fire or sun, however fierce they beat.
- D5.5.62Its water never lessens as you drink;Through these four gifts, your honor need not sink.
- D5.5.63When Caesar comes, yield all four to his hand,And he will turn away and spare your land.
