The Dream of the Rising Sun
From E4.7, The Dream Foretelling Mohammad. It illustrates E4.7.1–8:
- E4.7.1Before his death, one night, the monarch prayed; Before Yazdan his reverent praise was laid.
- E4.7.2His lucid spirit saw within a dreamA sun rise through the night with sudden gleam.
- E4.7.3A stairway rose through forty steps on high,Its summit reaching Saturn in the sky.
- E4.7.4From the Hijaz, in stately joy and light,That sun rose upward through the folds of night.
- E4.7.5It filled the world with brilliance, and its glowSpread Kaf to Kaf, and grief dissolved like snow.
- E4.7.6The farthest rims of earth, the nearest hills,Took luster from the light its glory spills.
- E4.7.7Light entered everywhere beneath the dome,Except the Shah’s own hall, still dark at home.
- E4.7.8The Shah rose from his sleep at midnight’s hour,Yet spoke to none about that dream of power.
