Arrow and Sword Exchanged Before the Khan
From E6.32, Bahram Chubin and the Khan of Chin. It illustrates E6.32.58–63:
- E6.32.58When Makatura heard, his anger burned;Against Bahram Chubin his vengeance turned.
- E6.32.59He drew a shaft: “Accept this dart from me;Tomorrow’s strife its fellow shaft shall see:
- E6.32.60When you appear before the royal sight,My whistling bow shall end your days in flight!”
- E6.32.61Chubin reached down and loosed his sword of pride,And gave it to the chieftain at his side:
- E6.32.62“Keep this sharp blade; observe its tempered steel:Tomorrow’s dawn its brother’s edge shall feel!”
- E6.32.63Then Makatura left the Khan’s high seat,And reached his own pavilion, swift of feet.
