در سایه‌روشن اطاق به کوزه آب که روی رف بود خیره شده بودم.

In the half-light of the room I was staring at the water jar on the shelf.

به نظرم آمد تا مدتی که کوزه روی رف است خوابم نخواهد برد.

It seemed to me that as long as the jar remained on the shelf I would not fall asleep.

یکجور ترس بیجا برایم تولید شده بود که کوزه خواهد افتاد، بلند شدم که جای کوزه را محفوظ کنم، ولی به واسطه تحریک مجهولی که خودم ملتفت نبودم دستم را عمداً به کوزه خورد، کوزه افتاد و شکست.

An unfounded fear had arisen in me that the jar would fall. I got up to make its position secure, but through some unknown impulse of which I was not aware, my hand deliberately struck the jar; the jar fell and broke.
