بالاخره می‌فهمم که نیمچه‌خدا شده بودم، ماورای همهٔ احتیاجات پست و کوچک مردم بودم،

At last I understand that I had become a demigod, beyond all the low and petty needs of people,

جریان ابدیت و جاودانی را در خودم حس می‌کردم.

I felt the current of eternity and immortality within myself.

ابدیت چیست؟ برای من ابدیت عبارت از این بود که کنار نهر سورن با آن لکاته سرمامک بازی بکنم

What is eternity? For me eternity consisted of playing hide-and-seek beside the Soren stream with that harlot,

و فقط یک لحظه چشمهایم را ببندم و سرم را در دامن او پنهان بکنم.

and merely closing my eyes for a moment and hiding my head in her lap.

یک‌باره به نظرم رسید که با خودم حرف می‌زدم، آن هم به‌طور غریبی.

Suddenly it seemed to me that I was talking to myself, and in a strange manner at that.

خواستم با خودم حرف بزنم ولی لبهایم به‌قدری سنگین شده بود که حاضر برای کمترین حرکت نبود.

I wanted to speak to myself, but my lips had grown so heavy that they were not ready for the slightest movement.

اما بی‌آنکه لبهایم تکان بخورد یا صدای خودم را بشنوم حس کردم که با خودم حرف می‌زدم.

But without my lips moving or my hearing my own voice, I felt that I was talking to myself.
