The Soren streamنهر سورن

نزدیک نهر سورن که رسیدم جلوم یک کوه خشک خالی پیدا شد.

When I came near the Soren stream, a bare, dry mountain appeared before me.

رفتم کنار نهر سورن زیر سایهٔ یک درخت کهن سرو روی ماسه نشستم.

I went beside the Soren stream, sat on the sand in the shade of an old cypress tree.

یک مرتبه که من دنبال همین لکاته رفتم نزدیک همان نهر سورن بود پای او لغزید و در نهر افتاد؛

Once, as I chased this very harlot near the same Soren stream, her foot slipped and she fell into the water.

با صورت او آشنا بودم، مثل این بود که در بچگی همین صورت را دیده بودم. یک روز سیزده به در بود، کنار نهر سورن، من با بچه‌ها سرمامک بازی می‌کردم، همین صورت به نظرم آمده بود که با صورت‌های معمولی دیگر که قد کوتاه و مضحک و بی‌خطر داشتند، به من ظاهر شده بود، صورتش شبیه همین مرد قصاب روبروی دریچه اطاقم بود.

I knew his face; it was as though I had seen that same face in childhood. It was on a Sizdah Bedar day beside the Soren stream, when I was playing hide-and-seek with the other children, that this face had appeared to me among the other ordinary faces, short, ridiculous and harmless; it resembled the butcher across from my window.

آیا این همان زن لطیف، همان دختر ظریف اثیری بود که لباس سیاه چین‌خورده می‌پوشید و کنار نهر سورن با هم سرمامک بازی می‌کردیم؟ همان دختری که حالت آزاد و بچگانه و موقت داشت و مچ پای شهوت‌انگیزش از زیر دامن لباسش پیدا بود؟

Was this the same delicate woman, the same slender ethereal girl who wore a pleated black dress, with whom I played hide-and-seek beside the Soren stream? The same girl who had a free, childlike and fleeting manner, and whose sensual ankle showed from beneath the hem of her dress?

ابدیت چیست؟ برای من ابدیت عبارت از این بود که کنار نهر سورن با آن لکاته سرمامک بازی بکنم

What is eternity? For me eternity consisted of playing hide-and-seek beside the Soren stream with that harlot,

صدای او خفه و کلفت مثل صدای دختربچه‌ای شده بود که کنار نهر سورن با من سرمامک بازی می‌کرد.

Her voice had become muffled and thick like the voice of the little girl who played hide-and-seek with me beside the Soren stream.

بعد تن گوارا، نمناک و خوش‌حرارتش او را به‌یاد همان دخترک رنگ‌پریدهٔ لاغری که چشمهای درشت و بی‌گناه ترکمنی داشت و کنار نهر سورن با هم سرمامک بازی می‌کردیم در آغوش کشیدم.

Then I embraced her pleasant, moist, warmly heated body, recalling that thin, pale little girl with large, innocent Turkmen eyes, with whom I had played hide-and-seek beside the Soren stream.
