Hushang Seizes the Black Div
From A1.3, Hushang and Kioumars Fight the Black Div. It illustrates A1.3.8–16:
- A1.3.8He gathered paris, leopards, lions bold,With wolves and tigers fierce beyond control;
- A1.3.9Wild beasts and tame, the birds and paris came,With Hushang at their head, intent on fame.
- A1.3.10Before the ranks the vengeful grandson led;Behind the army Kioumars Shah then sped.
- A1.3.11The Black Div came in fear before their might,And hurled his dust toward heaven’s towering height.
- A1.3.12The beasts’ great roaring weakened claw and hand,Before the wrath of him who ruled the land.
- A1.3.13The two great forces crashed in battle’s roar;The Divs could bear the beasts’ assault no more.
- A1.3.14Then Hushang sprang upon the Div in rage,And made the world grow narrow as a cage.
- A1.3.15He seized the vast Div, held him stretched and tight,Then struck his head from off his neck outright.
- A1.3.16He cast him at his feet and struck him prone;His hide was torn, his fortune overthrown.
