Zahhak Falls Before Zirak's Prophecy

Zahhak Falls Before Zirak's Prophecy

From A5.2, Zahhak Dreams of Fereydoon. It illustrates A5.2.60–65:

  • A5.2.60
Zirak replied: “If wisdom guides your eye,No man does evil without reason why.
  • A5.2.61
His father’s life shall perish by your hand;Revenge will drive him forth at fate’s command.
  • A5.2.62
A cow named Barmayeh shall nurse the child,And guard the world-seeker, tender and mild.
  • A5.2.63
That cow as well shall perish by your blow; For both these wrongs his gorz shall lay you low.”
  • A5.2.64
Zahhak gave ear to Zirak’s fateful word,Then toppled from the throne at what he heard.
  • A5.2.65
The noble Mobad turned from throne and king,In fear of what such truthful words might bring.
