Salm's Envoy Before the Turquoise Throne
From A6.17, Fereydoon Receives a Message from Salm and Tur. It illustrates A6.17.4–13:
- A6.17.4Upon the turquoise throne the Shah was seen,A cypress tall beneath the moon serene.
- A6.17.5With torque and golden earrings richly wrought,He sat in royal state, with splendor fraught.
- A6.17.6Beside him crowned Manuchehr took his place,The young king radiant in royal grace.
- A6.17.7The nobles stood in two long ranks arrayed,In robes of gold, their ordered lines displayed.
- A6.17.8Gold gorz shone and gold girdles caught the light,Till earth itself seemed doubled in their sight.
- A6.17.9On one side chained were leopards, lions too;Across from them stood elephants in view.
- A6.17.10Then Shapur came, whom all the court held great,And led Salm’s envoy through the royal gate.
- A6.17.11The envoy saw that court, dismounted near,Then ran on foot to make his homage clear.
- A6.17.12He saw the lofty throne and royal crown,Then rubbed his face upon the earth, bowed down.
- A6.17.13Fereydoon bade a golden seat be placed,And there the envoy sat, with honor graced.
