Qobad Falls from Shabdiz
From B1.4, Barman and Qobad in Single Combat. It illustrates B1.4.41–45:
- B1.4.41He spurred on Shabdiz, gave his heart no rest,And drove at Barman, eager for the test.
- B1.4.42They clashed from dawn till shadows stretched in length,Each tested all his skill and hardened strength.
- B1.4.43At last a dart from Barman struck its mark,And pierced Qobad, that lion old and stark.
- B1.4.44The weapon struck him by the hip and waist,And burst the fastening where his belt was braced.
- B1.4.45Headfirst from Shabdiz down to earth he went,And death fulfilled the fate that heaven sent.
