Soroush Appears to Gudarz in a Dream
From B10.15, Gudarz’s Dream of Kay Khosrow. It illustrates B10.15.1–12 (to B10.15.15):
- B10.15.1One night Gudarz beheld a swelling cloud,Rise water-laden from the cloudy shroud.
- B10.15.2Upon that flying cloud Soroush drew near,And bade old Gudarz open both his ears:
- B10.15.3“Attend: the famed Turk, dragon-like, brings pain;Hear how to break his power and end his reign.
- B10.15.4A sovereign now in Turan comes to view;Kay Khosrow is his name, a prince born true.
- B10.15.5The son of Siavash, a sovereign born,With honar, famed in gohar, richly worn.
- B10.15.6From Kay Qobad his father’s lineage came,Through Tur his mother bore a royal name.
- B10.15.7When his blessed foot shall reach Iran’s land,Whatever he asks heaven will grant his hand.
- B10.15.8He arms himself, his father’s fall to mourn,And vows the towers of Tur shall lie shorn.
- B10.15.9He shall make Qolzum’s waters boil in fight,Nor turn from Afrasiab day or night.
- B10.15.10In jowshan, bent on vengeance, he shall ride,In ceaseless battle, to his saddle tied.
- B10.15.11Yet none among the chiefs of Iran’s bandShall find him out or bring him to this land,
- B10.15.12Save Giv alone; high heaven has decreedThat only he shall find the king you need.
