Giv Sees the Youth by the Stream
From B10.17, Giv Finds Kay Khosrow. It illustrates B10.17.25–34:
- B10.17.25With sorrow in his heart he roamed the plain,Still searching meadows, restless and in vain.
- B10.17.26At last beside a shining stream he sawA youth whose beauty filled his soul with awe.
- B10.17.27Tall as a cypress, wine cup in his hand,A many-colored wreath above him spanned.
- B10.17.28His bearing showed the farr of royal right,And wisdom’s banner shone before Giv’s sight.
- B10.17.29He seemed Siavash, living and restored,On ivory throne, with crown of royal lord.
- B10.17.30The scent of love arose from that bright face,His locks seemed made a royal crown to grace.
- B10.17.31Giv thought: “This is the prince I sought to see; That royal seat is made for such as he.”
- B10.17.32He left his horse and went on foot ahead,While hope revived the spirit he thought dead.
- B10.17.33As nearer still he came, his grief withdrew; The knot of seven years of sorrow flew.
- B10.17.34The treasure long concealed now met his eyes,His years of sacrifice earned this great prize.
