Farangis Weeps against Behzad's Mane
From B10.19, Kay Khosrow Wins Behzad. It illustrates B10.19.34–43:
- B10.19.34When Farangis beheld the noble steed,Her wounded heart began once more to bleed.
- B10.19.35She pressed her cheek against his mane and chest,And called Siavash’s name in deep unrest.
- B10.19.36When tears were spent, she turned without delay,And toward her laden treasury made way.
- B10.19.37Within her eyvan lay a hidden store,Unknown to any living soul before.
- B10.19.38There lay dinars and dirhams, rubies rare,And precious gems preserved with secret care.
- B10.19.39With gopal, bargostvan, khanjar, blade,And heavy gorz, for battle all arrayed.
- B10.19.40Her cheeks grew red; her tears began to run;She opened all the treasure to her son.
- B10.19.41She said to Giv: “O chief who bore this pain,Choose from my treasure what you wish to gain.
- B10.19.42Take dinars, royal gems, and rubies’ fire,Or choose the jeweled crown if you desire.
- B10.19.43We merely guard it; all this wealth is yours; The toil and risk were yours through all those years.”
