Khosrow Descends to Greet Rostam
From B11.2, Iran’s Nobles Honor Kay Khosrow. It illustrates B11.2.33–39:
- B11.2.33When Khosrow saw the hero drawing near,His eyes grew wet as memory stirred a tear.
- B11.2.34He rose from off the throne and stepped below,And blessed the chief whom all the world would know.
- B11.2.35The warrior kissed the earth with reverent care,Then Khosrow spoke, his blessing to declare:
- B11.2.36“Live ever blessed, O chief of noble fame,Bright be your soul, enduring be your name.
- B11.2.37Wise and restrained in word and heart are you,Who fostered Siavash, steadfast and true.”
- B11.2.38He clasped Zal’s head against his royal breast,And grief for Siavash rose, no more suppressed.
- B11.2.39Then Khosrow seated both and drew them near,And spoke Yazdan’s great name for all to hear.
