Bijan Snatches Tazhav's Crown
From B12.17, The Iranians Battle Tazhav. It illustrates B12.17.40–47:
- B12.17.40Fierce Bijan chased him hard with eager cries,A spear uplifted, flashing to the skies.
- B12.17.41Like a mad elephant he stormed in chase,And roared behind Tazhav across the space.
- B12.17.42His spear struck Tazhav’s waist, a sharp, hard stroke,And all his strength within him failed and broke.
- B12.17.43The warrior reeled beneath the savage blow,Yet Roman jowshan held against the foe.
- B12.17.44The fastenings held firm and did not part; Then Bijan cast aside his useless dart.
- B12.17.45Like leopard leaping on a mountain sheep,He closed on Tazhav with a single leap.
- B12.17.46As falcon snatches lark from open sky,He tore the crown from Tazhav riding by.
- B12.17.47Afrasiab had set it on his head,It left him not in thought nor dreams in bed.
