Tazhav Begs Before the Dying Bahram

Tazhav Begs Before the Dying Bahram

From B12.25, Giv Avenges Bahram. It illustrates B12.25.42–48:

  • B12.25.42
Tazhav begged respite: “Spare my head today; What profit if your khanjar cuts it away?”
  • B12.25.43
Before Bahram he wallowed in the dust:“O noble man, your mercy is my trust.
  • B12.25.44
I shall become your servant from this hour,And tend your tomb while life is in my power.”
  • B12.25.45
Then Bahram said to Giv: “All men must die;The world gives breath and takes it with a sigh.
  • B12.25.46
Though harm from him has reached me on this day,He need not taste death’s bitterness this way.
  • B12.25.47
My soul-gift, ravan-dad, let him remain,To keep my name alive beyond this pain.”
  • B12.25.48
But Giv beheld his brother, wounded, torn,And Tazhav bound before him and forlorn.
