Siavash Appears to Tus in a Dream
From B13.17, Tus Sees Siavash in a Dream. It illustrates B13.17.1–10:
- B13.17.1One night, when drumbeat marked the darkened hour,Tus slept, heart-seared beneath grief’s heavy power.
- B13.17.2From water’s depth a sudden radiance came,And through the darkness rose a living flame.
- B13.17.3An ivory throne stood radiant in its light,With Siavash enthroned there, crowned and bright.
- B13.17.4His smiling lips and gentle speech drew near,His sun-bright face shone radiant and clear.
- B13.17.5He turned to Tus and spoke, his words sincere:“Keep all Iran’s assembled warriors here.
- B13.17.6For victory shall come when battle calls;Grieve not for Gudarz’s kin whom death enthralls.
- B13.17.7For here a fresh rose-garden now is made,Where we shall drink beneath its flowering shade.
- B13.17.8Who knows how long beneath these blooms we stay,Or how long wine will gladden us this way?”
- B13.17.9Then Tus awoke, his grief and pain withdrawn,And turned with joy to Gudarz, Pahlevan.
- B13.17.10“I saw a vision; mark these words of mine:Rostam will come like wind to aid our line.”
