Kamus Shears Giv's Spear
From B13.25, Giv and Tus Battle Kamus. It illustrates B13.25.33–43:
- B13.25.33Then Giv flared up in rage; he swiftly bracedAnd drew the sword that hung beside his waist.
- B13.25.34But when he neared Kamus, that massive frame,He thought, “A raging elephant could match the same.”
- B13.25.35He strung his bow and called on God Most High,The giver of good gifts beneath the sky.
- B13.25.36He loosed his arrows like a springtime rain,And struck at fierce Kamus across the plain.
- B13.25.37Kamus, who marked Giv’s mastery, bent low,And raised his shield to ward each arrow’s blow.
- B13.25.38Then spear in hand he rushed like wolf to prey,And bore upon brave Giv without delay.
- B13.25.39The air was filled with dust above the plain; The earth beneath their horses filled with slain.
- B13.25.40He reached brave Giv and struck him at the waist,His spear driven hard as through the field he raced.
- B13.25.41Giv reeled within his saddle at the thrust; The spear drew free as Kamus wheeled in dust.
- B13.25.42Kamus drew sword and roared his name aloud,Then grimly charged through dust before the crowd.
- B13.25.43He struck Giv’s spear and sheared the shaft in two,As scribes trim reeds for pens and cut them through.
