Kamus Boasts Before Piran and the Khan
From B13.24, Piran Consults the Khan of Chin. It illustrates B13.24.4–15 (to B13.24.28):
- B13.24.4Piran approached Chin’s mighty Khan and soughtHis counsel on the war that must be fought.
- B13.24.5Kamus said, “Keep command of your own force; You have Afrasiab’s warriors and horse,
- B13.24.6And troops that roll like waves across the plain,Yet five months’ war has brought no lasting gain.
- B13.24.7Against so small a foe what have you done? Now earth is full of troops beneath the sun.
- B13.24.8The Khan, Manshur, and I are here to fight; Now let our prowess prove its promised might.
- B13.24.9Your caution locked the gate; we bring the key,And shall unleash the war you feared to see.
- B13.24.10Though Chin’s silk covered all the world’s broad face,With Kabul, Zabul, Hind in every place,
- B13.24.11Yet if I fought alone, Iran would beA name erased by warriors such as me.
- B13.24.12None then would say Iranians still remain;Their name would vanish from the battle-plain.
- B13.24.13You seek to frighten me with Rostam; knowI first will strike him down and lay him low.
- B13.24.14If once I catch him in my battle snare,Then none will speak of Rostam anywhere.
- B13.24.15You fear the army coming from Sistan; That thought has filled your heart with care, Piran.
