Rostam Lassoes Kamus
From B13.32, Rostam Slays Kamus. It illustrates B13.32.8–17:
- B13.32.8Kamus the brave spurred on his battle steed,And charged at Rostam with a warrior’s speed.
- B13.32.9He swung his glittering sword with all his might,To sever Rostam’s head there in the fight.
- B13.32.10The sword struck Rakhsh upon the neck and toreHis bargostvan, the battle-coat he wore.
- B13.32.11Yet Rakhsh was safe and whole beneath the blow; The hero coiled his kamand for the throw.
- B13.32.12He cast the kamand round the Kashan lord; Then spurred the raging Rakhsh and drew the cord.
- B13.32.13He pinned the rawhide firmly with his thigh;Rakhsh seemed an eagle winging through the sky.
- B13.32.14Kamus, still fearless, gripped his steed with force,Pressed hard the stirrups and gave rein to horse.
- B13.32.15He strained to break the twisted rawhide thong,And tear its coils apart, so taut and strong.
- B13.32.16Kamus grew frantic; still the rawhide held.Rostam reined Rakhsh in, his wild rush quelled.
- B13.32.17He wheeled his mount and pulled the cord around,And jerked Kamus headforemost to the ground.
