Piran's Envoy Crosses the River
From B13.5, Piran’s Message to the Army of Iran. It illustrates B13.5.6–12:
- B13.5.6He drew his troops beside the river’s strand,And sent kind greetings to Iran’s command.
- B13.5.7Across the stream stood Tus with Iran’s might,With koust and elephants, the standard bright.
- B13.5.8A smooth-tongued Turanian he chose,And sent him where the Iranian standard rose.
- B13.5.9He said: “I showed all kindness from the startTo Farangis and Khosrow from my heart.
- B13.5.10For Siavash I wept in bitter grief,And boiled on fire that granted no relief.
- B13.5.11But now the nush-daru has turned to bane; From all my good has come but grief and pain.”
- B13.5.12Tus heard Piran’s words, and felt sorrow’s chain,His heart grew sorrowful beneath the strain.
