Rostam Flings Gahar Like a Leaf

From B14.13, Rostam Slays Gahar of Gahan. It illustrates B14.13.10–15:

  • B14.13.10
He fled to central ranks, his fear revealed,While all the army watched his courage yield.
  • B14.13.11
Rostam’s great standard rose above the fight,A tree upon a mountain’s utmost height.
  • B14.13.12
He followed Gahar, dust-like, as he flew;Earth glowed like ruby, air turned lapis-blue.
  • B14.13.13
He speared him, pierced the girdle of his foe,And tore his khaftan and fastenings with the blow.
  • B14.13.14
He flung him like a leaf torn from its treeBy mighty winds that strike and wrench it free.
  • B14.13.15
He overturned the flag of darkened blue,As though Gahar were one earth never knew.
