Kay Khosrow Prostrates Himself before Yazdan
From B14.18, The Shah Replies to Rostam. It illustrates B14.18.4–12:
- B14.18.4When Fariborz beheld the monarch’s face,He kissed the dust before that royal place.
- B14.18.5He praised the Shah, a king of mighty name,And offered many blessings on his fame.
- B14.18.6The Shah saw captives, hiyuns in their train,The elephants, and men who bore war’s pain.
- B14.18.7He rode apart, removed his royal crown,Then left his steed and cast his body down.
- B14.18.8He rolled in dust before Yazdan and cried,“O holy Ruler, source of strength and guide,
- B14.18.9The tyrant worked oppression on my head,And left me fatherless in grief and dread.
- B14.18.10Yet You released me from my grief and pain,And gave me crown and realm and royal reign.
- B14.18.11Both earth and time bowed down beneath my throne,The world grew filled with treasure of my own.
- B14.18.12I thank You, not the men who won the strife;Grant only this: preserve brave Rostam’s life.”
