Kay Khosrow Embraces Rostam
From B14.27, Rostam’s Return to Court. It illustrates B14.27.10–20:
- B14.27.10He bade the elephants be brought, then rode; The world in festive splendor round him glowed.
- B14.27.11Wine, harp, and minstrelsy were sought that day,To grace the world in all its rich array.
- B14.27.12The tabira and ney rang far and wide,When from his place the Shah set forth to ride.
- B14.27.13The elephants’ broad faces shone with wine,With musk and saffron spread along the line.
- B14.27.14Their drivers wore bright crowns, a sight divine,And from their ears hung rings of rich design.
- B14.27.15They showered wine, saffron, and coins below,And sifted musk and ambergris on the show.
- B14.27.16The city rang with minstrels everywhere;Their music rose and filled the festive air.
- B14.27.17When matchless Rostam saw the Shah’s bright crown,He heard rejoicing ring through all the town.
- B14.27.18He left his steed and bowed beside the throng; The Shah asked of his journey, hard and long.
- B14.27.19He clasped him close and held him to his breast;A long while passed before he loosed his guest.
- B14.27.20He blessed him many times and bade him ride; Then, hand in hand, they rode out side by side.
