Rakhsh Wakes Rostam a Third Time

Rakhsh Wakes Rostam a Third Time

From B5.3, Rostam Fights a Dragon. It illustrates B5.3.18–23:

  • B5.3.18
He wrapped his Babr-e Bayan round him tight,And slept a third time in the depth of night.
  • B5.3.19
The dragon roared, its breath like furnace flame;Rakhsh left the grass but near his lord scarce came.
  • B5.3.20
He dared not close; his heart was split by fear,Of dragon’s rage and Rostam’s anger near.
  • B5.3.21
At last his love overcame fear’s command; He rushed like wind and neighed and pawed the sand.
  • B5.3.22
He struck the ground with all his gathered might,Till earth itself seemed shattered in the night.
  • B5.3.23
Then Rostam started once again from sleep,And turned on faithful Rakhsh with anger deep.
