The Witch Revealed in the Kamand
From B5.4, Rostam Slays a Witch. It illustrates B5.4.22–28:
- B5.4.22He placed a cup of wine within her hand,And praised the Giver of Good across the land.
- B5.4.23At once her borrowed beauty left her face; Her painted charms dissolved without a trace.
- B5.4.24Her soul knew no devotion, prayer, or light; At Yazdan’s name her features blackened quite.
- B5.4.25Swift as the wind he cast his kamand wide,And caught her head and bound her at his side.
- B5.4.26“Declare what thing you are, and let me seeThe face and form that truly you may be.”
- B5.4.27Within the coils a foul old hag was seen,Deep-wrinkled, stinking, hideous in mien.
- B5.4.28With guile and magic bonds and harm replete,Her false enchantments ended at his feet.
